A Composer at The Carnival – A symphonic stand-up show in Iași for the whole family

Iași, February 6th 2025
Classix Festival, one of the independent cultural initiatives noted at European level, has announced the complete concert program of its sixth edition: we will have a contemporary classical adventure dedicated to explorers eager to step out of their comfort zone and enter the world of classical music in a unique and authentic approach.
The show „A Composer at The Carnival”, part of the Classix Festival 2025 program, will take place on March 1, 2025, starting at 11:00, in the Sala Unirii (Cinema Victoria) in Iași. Tickets are available online, on the festival website – and pupils and students benefit from a 50% discount.
In the role of composer Camille Saint-Saëns, Bob Rădulescu invites the audience to a tour of the creative workshop where his famous Carnival was born. The short musical portraits of the animals are full of all kinds of humorous jokes, behind which a dose of satire is also hidden. Which animal is the most elegant waltz dancer? Are the fossils, also invited to the carnival, dinosaur skeletons, or maybe completely different fossils? Stepping out of the composer’s shoes, Bob, the comedian of today, bravely proves that the humor of more than a century ago is more alive than ever.
The artists invited to the concert stage are: Bob Rădulescu – actor, Dalma Toadere – conductor, the Classix Collective ensemble (violins, violas, cellos, double basses, pianos) and Sabin Penea – guest concertmaster.
„When classical music meets the spoken word, when the conductor occasionally hands over the baton to the actor and the orchestra’s sonorous chords give way to jokes and laughter from the audience, then you know you’ve come across the newest concept of musical stand-up, and “A Composer at Carnival” is the exponent of this artists’ manifesto to keep up with the audience in our times.”, mentions Bob Rădulescu.
The concert program consists of the works: Camille Saint-Saëns: Carnival of the Animals and Danse Macabre, Hector Berlioz – Dance of the Sylphs from “The Damnation of Faust”, op. 24, Jacques Offenbach – “Galop Infernal” (Can-Can) from “Orpheus in the Inferno” and Hortense de Beauharnais – Partant pour la Syrie.
Dalma Toadere, the concert conductor, mentions: „A Composer at The Carnival walks us between Saint-Saens’s little room where he composed a humorous work for one of his friend’s evenings and the present where we experience humor in a contemporary form: stand-up moments. When the concept was born I was not sure what it would look like in the end or if it would be something that would be received with applause. The concert was successfully presented in multiple cities and now we are going with it to Classix!”
