Classix Festival is an international, independent festival held annually in Iași, Romania, which redefines the concert experience through interdisciplinarity and adapts it to the contemporary audience.
The festival encourages cultural dialogue, repositions classical music beyond elitist boundaries, and brings it closer to the curious, the passionate, and the explorers through new technologies and new media arts.
The mission of Classix Festival is to cultivate a new generation of audiences with broad cultural and intellectual interests, contributing to the revitalization of the artistic landscape in Eastern Europe.
The festival promotes cultural diversity and intercultural communication by celebrating both national and European traditions and supporting dialogue between artistic disciplines.
By fostering excellence and collaboration between established and emerging artists, Classix Festival aims to transform classical music into a universal language of connection and understanding.
The festival’s goal is to inspire a new generation of audiences to expand their cultural and intellectual horizons, while contributing to the artistic revitalization of Iași, the North-East region, and Romania as a whole.
Its themes address current societal concerns, exploring the connection between art, humanity, and progress, as well as between national and European traditions, in an effort that promotes cultural diversity and local heritage on an international scale.
Classix Festival promotes a contemporary artistic vision, where the tradition of classical music meets innovative forms of expression – from multimedia projections and videomapping to syncretic performances and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Under its defining slogan, a contemporary classic affair, the festival transforms each edition into a sonic and visual journey inviting audiences to (re)discover the emotional power and contemporary relevance of classical music.
The concert repertoire blends renowned masterpieces with rare or rediscovered works, giving audiences the opportunity to experience compositions and artists that are usually absent from the traditional philharmonic programs in Romania.
The uniqueness of the festival lies in its openness to a wide audience, through a modern, accessible, and visionary approach that turns the musical experience into a dialogue between generations, cultures, and artistic forms.
Since its debut in February 2020 —and despite the pandemic context —Classix Festival has grown steadily, becoming one of the most important independent classical music events in Romania.
Across its six editions so far, the festival has brought together over 350 international artists from 23 countries – including Poland, Romania, Norway, South Korea, Austria, Germany, France, the USA, the Faroe Islands, Sweden, Czechia, Moldova, Denmark, Switzerland, Israel, Finland, the UK, Spain, Italy, Iran, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Russia.
It has attracted over 30,000 in-person attendees and more than 365,000 online viewers, consolidating its role as a catalyst for cultural innovation and a promoter of international dialogue.
Beyond its concert dimension, Classix Festival stands out for the diversity of projects that enrich its creative universe.
The Classix-in-Focus program highlights interdisciplinary dialogue and cultural networking through 23 panel discussions, 4 lectures, 6 exhibitions and openings, 2 book launches, 10 short film screenings, and other interventions that build bridges between art, education, and innovation.
Meanwhile, the Classix-in-Art fund provides tangible support to young emerging artists through 193 masterclass sessions and 18 creative scholarships, totaling €18,000, aimed at musicians, visual artists, and performers with international potential.
Thus, Classix Festival is not merely an event but a cultural movement that fosters dialogue between disciplines, democratizes access to contemporary sound art, and transforms Iași into a landmark on the European classical music map.
