Mihai Diaconescu

Mihai Diaconescu graduated from the Marin Sorescu Art High School in Craiova, where he studied under the guidance of Mariana Ilie, and his first notable performance was winning First Prize at the National Performance Olympiad, at the age of 13. He made his international debut at the age of 12 at the Munich Philharmonic.
From 2010 to 2013 he attended the National Academy of Music “Gheorghe Dima” in Cluj-Napoca, under the supervision of Prof. Csiky Boldizsar. In 2013-2014 he received an Erasmus scholarship, which allowed him to study at the “Sibelius” Academy in Helsinki, where he later became a master’s student in the class of Professor Erik T. Tawaststjerna, which he will complete in 2018.
During his career, Mihai Diaconescu has participated in numerous masterclasses with important personalities of the musical world, such as Walter Krafft, Robert Levin, Martin Hughes, Denis Pascal, Paavali Jumppanen or Martti Rautio. The pianist has been awarded numerous prizes at national and international competitions, including 2nd Prize at the Giovanni Pianisti Competition in Italy and 1st Prize at the Rovere d’Oro Competition in Italy and the Liszt Competition in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He is a repeated laureate of national performance olympiads in Romania and a semi-finalist in competitions such as the Nordic Piano Competition in Sweden and the Ciurlionis Competition in Lithuania.
With a rich concert activity, Mihai Diaconescu has been a frequent guest in countries such as Germany, Italy, and Austria, and has performed recitals and concerts in prestigious halls around the world, including Gasteig in Munich, Germany, Sala Argenta – Palacio de Festivales in Santander, Spain, and Teatro Bibiena in Mantova, Italy. He has participated in major international festivals such as the Carl Filtsch Festival in Sibiu, Romania, the Liszt Festival in Cluj, Romania, and the Encuentro Santander Festival 2018 in Santander, Spain. To the rich palette are added collaborations with important artists such as Serghei Lomovsky, Ludmila Kruskhova, Pascal Gallois, and Alexandru Tomescu.
The period between 2022 and 2023 also included numerous recitals and concerts, including concerts as a soloist with the orchestras of the Philharmonics of Oradea, Râmnicu-Vâlcea, Ploiești, Craiova, the Romanian National Opera of Cluj-Napoca and the Podkarpacka Rzeszów Philharmonie, Poland.
The most recent project Mihai was involved in was the Vibrations 2023 National Tour, in which, together with Valentin Șerban, he performed chamber music concerts at the Philharmonics of Timișoara, Oradea, Cluj-Napoca, Brașov, Târgu-Mureș, Craiova and on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum.
Since April 2023, Mihai Diaconescu has been a doctor in music and works as an assistant professor at the National Academy of Music “Gheorghe Dima”.
