Petrea Gîscă

Petrea Gîscă is a horn player and professor. He graduated from the Iași music school, studying successively with Prof. Neculai Musteață and Constantin Petrea, finishing as the top student of his class at the conservatory.
In 1984, he received a scholarship to study in Italy at Lanciano with Prof. Sigilfrido Covizzi. In 1990, he attended the Summer Courses in Bayreuth, Germany. He earned his Doctorate in Music in 2009, summa cum laude, by publicly presenting and defending his thesis on “The Horn in the works of Franz Strauss and Richard Strauss. Their contribution to the emancipation of the instrument’s technique and expressiveness,” under the supervision of Prof. Nicolae Gâscă. Since 2021, he has been affiliated with the Doctoral School of UNAGE Iași in the field of Music.
His concert activity includes positions as principal horn and section leader, as well as a soloist of the “Moldova” Philharmonic from Iași, and a permanent member of the “Europa Symphony” Orchestra in Vienna, under the direction of Wolfgang Gross (1995 – 1998). Between 2017 – 2022, he also worked as a solo horn player and section leader in the orchestra of the Romanian National Opera from Iași.
