Răzvan Popovici

Concert:

He was born in Bucharest into a family of musicians and studied in Salzburg, Paris, and Freiburg. 

He performed as a soloist in the concert halls of the Cologne Philharmonic, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, Prinzregententheater in Munich, and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, alongside the Chamber Orchestras of Cologne, Kobe, and Munich, the National Radio Orchestra and the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest, and the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, under the baton of conductors Roberto Abbado, Christian Badea, Shlomo Mintz, and John Axelrod. 

He collaborated with Juliane Banse, Shlomo Mintz, Konstantin Lifschitz, Natalia Gutman, Nobuko Imai, Elena Bashkirova, Radovan Vlatkovic, Daishin Kashimoto, Olli Mustonen, Gilles Apap, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Louis Lortie, Roland Pöntinen, Patrick Gallois, Enrico Pace, Sergej Nakriakov, and Giovanni Sollima. 

He is a regular guest at festivals around the world, such as the Lucerne Festival, Wiener Festwochen, George Enescu Festival, Intonations Festival in Berlin, and festivals in Kuhmo, Spoleto, Stavanger, Delft, and Jerusalem. 

Among the concert halls where he has performed are Carnegie Hall in New York, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, South Bank and Wigmore Hall in London, YMCA in Jerusalem, Bozar in Brussels, and Philharmonie de Paris. 

Răzvan regularly performs worldwide as a member of the Raro Ensemble. The Ensemble has released nine albums to date, highly acclaimed worldwide. The latest CD, titled “Impressions d’enfance – Music by George Enescu,” was released in April 2022 in Brussels. 

A beneficial experience for his career was his participation as an instrumentalist in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000-2001. 

Răzvan is the initiator and executive director of the Chiemgauer Musikfruhling Festival in Traunstein, Germany, and the SoNoRo International Chamber Music Festival in Bucharest, which he has turned into a highly successful European cultural platform. 

Răzvan regularly conducts masterclasses in Europe, Japan, and South America, as well as within the educational project SoNoRo Interferențe or the “Villa Musica” Foundation in Schloss Engers/Mainz. 

Since 2023, he is a professor of viola at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium.
