Daniel Auner

The violinist Daniel Auner is winner of the KlassikPreis Österreich and Eugéne Ysaÿe Competition. He studied with Christian Altenburger, Igor Ozim and Boris Kuschnir, and then he additionally studied three years with musicologist Dagmar Glüxam focusing on theory of affects in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Auner has played with renowned conductors such as Andres Orozco-Estrada and Marin Alsop and with major orchestras, including the Bergische Symphoniker, Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and Orchestra Sinfónica Brasileira. He founded the Auner Quartet in 2015 and has been frequently involved with the Vienna Mozart Trio, being invited to prestigious festivals and concert halls in Europe.

These soloistic collaborations led him to some of the biggest stages worldwide such as Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Suntory Hall, Tokyo Opera City Hall, Philharmonie Saint Petersburg, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels

He recorded Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas in collaboration with the Mozarteum Salzburg. His discography includes 12 albums, released by Gramola Vienna, Capriccio, Coviello and Preiser Records, including Dialogue with Mozart, reviewed by The Strad as “the CD of the Month”.

Since 2020, he is the artistic director of the Mödling Symphony Orchestra and serves on the board of the Fritz Kreisler Society, organizing the Fritz Kreisler Competition, thus strengthening his commitment to musical excellence. Furthermore, from 2018 Daniel teaches violin at the Prayner Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna. 

As Austria’s cultural ambassador through the New Austrian Sound of Music initiative, the violinist promotes educational initiatives in South America, South-East Asia and the Middle East.

Daniel plays on a rare Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin generously donated by the National Bank of Austria and is generously supported by Thomastik Infeld.
