Daniel Lazar is a Serbo-Norwegian violinist and composer who represents the fifth generation of violinists in his family. He started playing the violin at the age of 4 under the guidance of his grandfather. Coming from a village in the suburbs of Belgrade, where the majority of the inhabitants are Romanian, Daniel’s education was enriched by various cultural influences.
He trained at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and later obtained a master’s degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, under the guidance of Isaac Schuldman.
Performing on stages in Europe, Asia and America, Daniel has collaborated with artists such as Gheorghe Zamfir, Toumani Diabate, Silje Nergaard, Daniel Herskedal and Seckou Keita. He has participated in major festivals such as Womex, Oslo World, Exit festival and Rudolstadt and has performed on stages as diverse as Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Theater Aachen, St. Florian Monastery and Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest.
His duo project, his latest album “Family beyond blood”, reached number 1 in the Balkan World Music Charts, secured number 5 in the European World Music Charts and number 7 in the Transglobal World Music Charts.
Deeply rooted in the folk traditions of the Balkans, Daniel is dedicated to preserving and sharing this rich heritage, while exploring its possibilities through fusion with other genres such as jazz and classical music. By combining traditional and modern elements, he creates works that resonate with contemporary audiences. A passionate advocate of cultural exchange, Daniel seeks to broaden the understanding of Balkan traditions and their cultural significance, giving audiences a deeper appreciation of the musical diversity of the region.
