Ensemble MidtVest (EMV), founded in 2002, is a celebrated Danish chamber ensemble known for its innovative approach, blending traditional chamber music with bold new formats to engage diverse audiences.
With a repertoire spanning 500 years of classical music and free improvisation, EMV aims to create meaningful, accessible experiences for listeners both inside and beyond the concert hall, performing at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall in New York and Kings Place in London.
The ensemble, consisting of a string trio, wind quintet, and pianist, collaborates with prominent musicians such as Pekka Kuusisto, Martin Fröst, and the Danish String Quartet, enhancing its rich artistic language.
Based at the HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, EMV produces around 100 concerts annually and is dedicated to fostering equal access to music, including performances in remote communities and initiatives for local talent development. Their discography of 23 albums includes award-winning recordings of Mozart and Brahms quartets, with recent albums receiving acclaim, such as the Whirl’s World album featuring Per Nørgård’s compositions, which earned a Gramophone Award nomination. Supported by the Danish Arts Foundation and regional municipalities, EMV continues to contribute significantly to Denmark’s cultural landscape.
