Hans Petter Mæhle

(Norway)

Norwegian conductor Hans Petter Mæhle has built up a wealth of experience not only through conducting, but also as a principal violinist in several Norwegian orchestras both in the concert hall and at the opera.

He made his conducting debut in 2009 with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and has since then conducted several orchestras both in Norway and abroad, from the Oslo Philharmonic & Royal Scottish National Orchestra, all the way to the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra.

Mæhle completed his masters degree in conducting at the Norwegian Academy of music and has participated in classes and seminars with Neeme & Paavo Järvi, Jukka-Pekka Saraste & Jorma Panula amongst others.

His concert program of Mozart, Smetana & Shostakovich with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra was broadcast on national television and radio and in 2024 he was reengaged by the orchestra and worked with the stellar mezzo-soprano Astrid Nordstad delivering a heart-rendering interpretation of Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde which was broadcast on national radio in Norway.

Being a versatile musician, Mæhle readily conducts anything from Monteverdi to Morricone. He is also passionate about opera and enjoys working with singers due to what he sees as the added psychological layers arising from the interplay between music, words, stage, and the human voice.
