Pietro Roffi

Pietro Roffi is an internationally renowned accordionist with a career spread over five continents. His repertoire covers classical music, tango, his own compositions and film music. He debuted as soloist with the Orchestra Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, performing a work by Dario Marianelli dedicated to Ennio Morricone’s birthday.

He has performed with orchestras such as the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra and the Romanian National Youth Orchestra, on prestigious stages in Europe, South America, China and Australia. In 2022, he debuted with the Odeion String Quartet in South Africa, performing Vivaldi’s “The Seasons” in his own arrangement.

He is the author of the album “1999”, awarded the Orpheus Prize for the best Italian accordion album, and of the works “Tutto Tango” and “La vie en blanc” (Extended Place). His compositions have been performed at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zürich and Münchner Philharmoniker.

He collaborated on the soundtracks of the films “Pinocchio” (Matteo Garrone) and “Nome di donna” (Marco Tullio Giordana). In September 2021, he debuted his own composition, “Goldberg Rework”, in duet with Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova. To mark the centenary of Astor Piazzolla’s birth, in 2021 Pietro toured Italy as part of the “Tutto Tango #piazzolla100” project, in duo with pianist Alessandro Stella.

Pietro’s music is regularly broadcast by major European radio stations (BBC 3, WDR 3, Klassik Radio, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, NPO, Rás 1, Antena 2 Portugal, DR P2, Radio France, etc.) and performed in prestigious concert halls. Recently, a selection of his compositions for accordion and string quintet has been performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Münchner Philharmoniker and Tonhalle Zürich. His piece “Nocturne” for accordion and string quintet is included in the album “Piazzolla Reflections” by Ksenija Sidorova, released in 2021 for the Alpha Classics label.

He has given masterclasses as a lecturer at the National University of Music in Bucharest, has recorded live concerts for national television and radio stations in China, Romania and Italy, and is invited every year to represent his home country by Italian embassies and cultural institutes around the world.

As a teacher at the Domenico Cimarosa Conservatory in Avellino, he inspires his students to excel on the international stage. His students have won some of the most prestigious international accordion competitions. He plays a Scandalli Extreme accordion built in Castelfidardo.
