Cătălin Marinescu

Cătălin Marinescu (b. 1993, Iași) is an emerging artist within the contemporary visual arts scene, academically trained at the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, where he graduated in Photo-Video and is currently pursuing doctoral studies. Dedicated to exploration and expression through diverse artistic media, his practice focuses on photography, performance art and new media installations, constantly seeking to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional mediums. His artistic approach develops at the intersection of photography, processuality and immersive experiences, exploring through his work the relationship between the technical image, presence and memory. His strategies include photographic recovery, video mapping, layered projections, performativity and exhibition scenography.

His exhibition trajectory includes presentations in Iași and across the national artistic landscape, among which are: “Time is a Flat Circle” (2025), Galeria Aparte, Iași; “XYZ, Back to the Future” (2025), Galeria Octav Băncilă, Iași; “Nature after Nature” (2025), Comenduirea Garnizoanei, Timișoara; “Destruction is a Form of Creation” (2024), Galeria ARTEAST, Iași; “The Day the City Stopped” (2nd edition), Galeria Casa Matei, Cluj-Napoca; “EUROINVENT – The New Humanism”, Galeria Alchimia, Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection “Cristofor Simionescu”, Iași, awarded the Bronze Medal; “Outside Visible Time” (2024), Art Museum of Piatra-Neamț; “Atelier 35”(2024), Galeria de Artă “Victoria”, Iași; “Whispers of the Posthuman World. Dancing with Machines amidst Unstable Skies” (2023), Baia Turcească, Iași; “Document. Object. Narrative” (2023), Art Museum of Piatra-Neamț.

He participated in “Romanian Creative Week – New Media District” in 2022, 2024 and 2025, winning the Jury Prize in 2024 with the work “Punctum”. He also took part, alongside the collective Edge Mapping, in the first video mapping festival in the Republic of Moldova, held at Castelul Mimi (2025), and was involved in organising the international video mapping event “Light Up” at Palas, Iași (2025).

Through his works, Cătălin seeks to create a connection between personal and universal experiences, inviting the audience to engage in a visual and emotional journey. In each creation, he aims to convey profound concepts while stimulating both an inner and outer dialogue about our realities and infinite possibilities.
