Christian Giuseppe Martínez Alegría began his percussion studies in his hometown of Cali, Colombia. He later continued his education at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and at the Rogaland Music Conservatory in Stavanger. In 1996, he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, the same year he joined Esbjerg Ensemble.

As a chamber musician and soloist, he has performed at numerous festivals and concerts across Scandinavia, Europe, the USA, Latin America and Taiwan. His appearances include the Nordic Music Days Festival (2010), Athelas New Music Festival (2011), Percussion Plus Festival Aarhus (2012), Kalliokuninkala Festival (2012, Finland) and Percussion Plus(2014, Finland).

In January 2014, Esbjerg Ensemble collaborated with the renowned baritone Omar Ebrahim in the first Scandinavian performance of “Pas a pas, nulle-part” by György Kurtág, for baritone, string trio and percussion.

In 2010, Christian G. Martínez Alegría released his first solo CD, “Rhythmical Séance”, featuring “I Ching” by Per Nørgård, alongside works by Ivar Frounberg and Ejnar Kanding. His collaboration with Per Nørgård resulted in two additional works included on the album: the concerto for percussion and ensemble “Three Scenes” and “Arabesques I, II, III” (2011) for solo percussion. Both works are dedicated to Christian G. Martínez Alegría and Esbjerg Ensemble.
