Classix Festival 2026 – Art & Mind

The full concert schedule

Classix Festival announces the complete concert program for its seventh edition. In 2026, the festival proposes the theme Art & Mind, a journey that explores the relationship between art and thinking, inviting the audience to a contemporary classical experience built with clarity and openness.

Organized by the Creative Industries Association and Showberry, Classix Festival will take place in Iași between March 1–8, 2026, and tickets and passes are available on the festival’s official website.

The program of the seventh edition will consist of 9 concerts, held in emblematic venues in Iași, such as the Roman Catholic Cathedral “Saint Mary, Queen,” the Palace of Culture, the “Mihai Eminescu” Central University Library, the “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre, MINA Museum Iași, and Sala Unirii. This year’s edition brings forward artistic encounters that explore the emotional, cognitive, and social functions of art.

Genesis, the festival’s opening concert, will take place on March 1 at 19:30 at the Roman Catholic Cathedral “Saint Mary, Queen” in Iași. The concert will symbolically open an edition dedicated to the relationship between art and thought. The program will be built in dialogue with the liturgical space, referencing the music of Giuseppe Sarti, a composer present in Iași at the end of the 18th century, in the context of the inauguration of the city’s first Catholic organ.

On March 2, Voces del Amor will take place in the Gaudeamus Hall of the Iași Students’ Cultural House. The meeting between Spain’s Ensemble Bayona and the voice of cantaora Mariola Membrives will highlight the dialogue between chamber music and flamenco expression. The program, including works by Antonín Dvořák, Francisco Coll, and Manuel de Falla, will explore love as an inner experience and emotional transformation, in which the voice becomes the central element of expression and feeling.

The concert Rhapsody in Motion, scheduled for March 3 in the same venue, will be performed by Esbjerg Ensemble (Denmark). The program will bring together works by George Enescu, Carl Nielsen, Dmitri Shostakovich, Herman David Koppel, and Lil Lacy, in a musical journey built on contrast, energy, and contemporary expression.

On March 4, Love Frequencies will take place in the Hall of Honor of the Palace of Culture in Iași. The concert, performed by Austria’s Duo Minerva – Johanna Gossner (clarinet) and Damian Keller (accordion) – will explore different facets of emotional expression in music through a program spanning the European repertoire, from Kurt Weill and Erik Satie to Ludwig van Beethoven, Gustav Mahler, and Marguerite Monnot.

The concert In Between will take place on March 5 in the Aula of the “Mihai Eminescu” Central University Library in Iași. Performed by Esbjerg Ensemble, the program will explore contrasts between structure and fragility through works by Robert Schumann, Igor Stravinsky, Carl Nielsen, and Per Nørgård.

For the first time in the festival’s history, Classix will reach MINA Museum Iași with the concert A Matter of Time, scheduled for March 6. The event will feature Dragoș Cantea (Romania/Norway) on piano, Sarah Nemtanu (France) on violin, and Anita Graef (USA) on cello. The program will cross pre-classical and romantic repertoire, culminating with Maurice Ravel’s Trio, in an immersive setting emphasizing the relationship between time, sound, and perception.

March 7 will begin with The Cunning Little Vixen, a concert opera adapted for children after Leoš Janáček, presented in a short version translated and performed in Romanian. The performance will take place at Sala Unirii in Iași and will be performed by Classix Collective (Romania) under the baton of conductor Kristoffer Wøien (Norway), alongside guest soloists.

The evening of March 7 continues with The Sound of Strings, performed by the Polish ensemble VOŁOSI, also at Sala Unirii. The program emphasizes how music stimulates attention and immediate reaction, emerging from the meeting between traditional Carpathian sounds and the expressive freedom of contemporary music. Through improvisation and collective energy, VOŁOSI will transform strings into an experience that activates memory, presence, and the connection between artists and audience.

The gala concert of the edition, La Bellezza, will take place on March 8 in the Grand Hall of the “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre in Iași. The program will feature Enrico Dindo (Italy) on cello, Monica Cattarossi (Italy) on piano, and Frank Dupree Trio (Germany), proposing a musical journey that starts in the classical repertoire and moves toward jazz and improvisation, celebrating the balance between form and freedom.
