GUIDED TOUR: The Musical Tradition of Iași
- 8 martie 2026, 15:00
- Union Square
Musical Tradition in Iași proposes a journey into the city’s sonic memory, a guided tour that follows the traces of the composers, teachers, and institutions that shaped the musical identity of Iași.
Organized by Asociația Iași.Travel as part of Classix Festival 2026, the tour lasts approximately two hours and transforms the historic center into a living score, where each stop tells a story.
📌 Meeting point: Piața Unirii, in front of the statue of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, at 15:00.
This is the place where modern Romania took shape, to the sounds of music by composer Alexander Flechtenmacher, a music teacher active in Iași during the time of the Union of the Principalities.
The route continues along Strada Lăpușneanu, where we evoke the destiny of soprano Haricleea Darclée, one of the great voices of European opera.
We then head toward the home and legacy of Professor Eduard Caudella, mentor to George Enescu and a key figure in the development of Romanian musical education.
At the Casa de Cultură a Studenților, we explore the energy of brass bands and percussion music through the stories of Gheorghe Skeletti and Ovidiu Lipan Țăndărică.
A stop at the former headquarters of the Conservatory founded by Gavriil Musicescu brings back into focus the beginnings of academic musical education in Iași.
We will pass in front of the Filarmonica Moldova Iași, then by the Opera Națională Română Iași and the Teatrul Național „Vasile Alecsandri” Iași—institutions that define the city’s artistic continuity.
The route continues along Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt, where administrative and ecclesiastical authority coexist in symbolic dialogue, and the final stop will be the Catedrala Catolică „Sfânta Fecioară Maria, Regină”, a traditional host of Classix concerts.
🧣 We recommend that participants dress according to the weather conditions so we can fully enjoy this walk through history, architecture, and music.
