Corina Ciuplea
Classix in Focus:
Corina Ciuplea studied cello at the Bucharest University of Music. Since his college days, he founded the Muse Quartet out of the desire to create a non-conformist string-quartet on the Romanian market. From original takeovers of non-classical works, street performance and collaborations with indie, pop-rock, electronic or hip hop artists, Muse Quartet has consecrated the idea of an alternative quartet. This initiative to create a “bridge” between worlds and between instrumentalists with a different musical background has become a trend and Corina (through several independent actions) has demonstrated that this crossover is also possible on a large scale – and she has been organizing orchestras for 8 years non-classical for various collaborations on stage with artists such as Golan, Vita de vie, Deliric, Alexander Knappe, Goran Bregovic, Zdob si Zdub, Vunk, byron, The MonoJacks, Robin and the Backstabbers, Lucia, Andra, Akua Naru, Stefan Banica jr or Bruce Dickinson – The music of Jon Lord and Deep Purple.
As a necessity for our cultural market in continuous development, Corina also founded the Bucharest Film Orchestra – a project that interprets and records theater and film soundtracks. This is how the soundtrack of the film Romania Salbatica was recorded, after several decades of “quietness” in Romanian film music sung by an orchestra, this revival came and the music was awarded with the Gopo Award for the best original soundtrack.
Over the years, Corina has worked in festivals such as Femei pe Matasari, the George Enescu International Festival (and collaborated with the organizers of the Sonoro and CellEast festivals). In the projects she is involved in, she is recognized as a link between the classical world and the alternative scenes, such as the Deliric shows with the orchestra at the Untold festival in Cluj.
Also from the time of the faculty, Corina Ciuplea-Turcan invested time, patience and consistency in a set of skills adjacent to the music industry – musical notation and sheet music editing. Thus he created a career in this field and currently collaborates with several composers and institutions from the country and abroad. For the last 5 years he has been working in the film music industry at the Europaische FilmPhilharmonie in Berlin, having the opportunity to assist prestigious orchestras in Europe such as Zurich Tonhalle, Paris Philharmonie or Bayerische Rundfunk
Although self-taught in this field, the experience and prestige of working with major publishing houses in the world, on composers and important published works, Corina has become an expert in the field and is invited to music universities in Europe to support seminars, workshops and masterclasses uri for this discipline.
