Since 1987, Andreas Sønning has been an associate professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and a visiting professor at several other conservatories in Europe.

Since 2000, Sønning has been responsible for developing several EU educational networks with the aim of renewing higher music education and implementing innovation and entrepreneurial projects in this field.

Sønning has also toured as a solo flutist and chamber musician, in addition to working in many artistic director positions over the past 25 years in Scandinavia, Russia, Ukraine, Japan, France, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and the USA, often commissioning new works for flute.
