Paul Pintilie

Paul Pintilie is a composer, pianist, and university lecturer whose musical formation began with piano studies in early childhood. He graduated from the “Octav Băncilă” National College of Arts in Iași and continued his studies at the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, where he studied composition under Prof. Ciprian Ionand earned his PhD in Music in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Gheorghe Duțică.

Active both as a performer and educator, his work spans a broad spectrum: solo, chamber, and symphonic works, including Missa Harmonis (for choir, orchestra, and jazz combo), Aproape de Soare – Concerto for Orchestra, and Mustața lui Dali și alte culori for chamber orchestra, as well as music for theatre, film, jazz, and pop. In 2025, his compositional work expanded internationally through his involvement in The Hills of Change – A Transcultural Symphony, a Romanian–Norwegian co-production.

A dedicated enthusiast of jazz and pop, he continuously develops a compositional language shaped by the dialogue between academic rigour and stylistic freedom. He has collaborated with international artists such as Jennifer Batten and Sam Sims (members of Michael Jackson’s band), as well as members of Smokie and Scorpions. He recently signed a contract with Sailor’s Eye Productions for the composition of four film scores.

He currently serves as Lecturer (PhD) at the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, where he teaches harmony, composition, and choral arranging, advocating a balance between theoretical discipline and artistic intuition.
